Classwork has begun in earnest, focusing early on the essentials: teamwork, teamwork and teamwork. And food preparation. And mop skills. And food safety. Some of this classwork occurs in a classroom. The rest is learned throughout the day in the kitchen. Tuesday's Inauguration Day was a day off for the school, which follows weather-related closure decisions of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. But a couple of students showed up at the Culinary School anyway, and volunteered in the Friendship Trays kitchen that morning. Key skills are learned in the kitchen as Friendship Trays prepares about 700 meals for distribution each morning.
