BREAKFAST TOUR: Executive Director Ron Ahlert helped lead the Breakfast Tour through the Distribution Street building Monday. Co-sponsored with Friendship Trays, the tour offers members of the community a delicious breakfast, then a guided tour of the building to explain the work of the meals-on-wheels prorgram, the Community Culinary School, and the Society of St. Andrew, the gleaning network that has its Western N.C. headquarters in the building. Each independent nonprofit has its own story to tell, but the tour is also about the cooperation among the groups that helps maximize resources and focus on the groups' missions. So what's with the shoe? Fashion statement? Not quite, but if you enroll in the next class of the Culinary School, you'll learn why these shoes walk thousands of miles each day in the city's restaurant kitchens.
