Aug. 10--Wells Fargo's Community Partners Program will present
45 grants of $1,000 each Thursday to a group of smaller, neighborhood efforts
that are often over looked by large foundations.
The program is described as a new way the Wachovia Wells Fargo
Foundation can connect with the community on a neighborhood level.
Team members at Wells Fargo bank branches chose the recipients, based on how the
nonprofit was helping out in the neighborhood surrounding the branch. Wells
Fargo has used that approach for several years in other states it serves.
"We know the needs are great across the area, especially now,"
said J.B. Abdullah, community bank president for metro Charlotte.
"This is a new way to help more people and more groups that we haven't been able
to reach in the past. We think this will build local ties and foster even more
community involvement by our team members."
Leaders of the non-profit groups will receive $1,000 checks from those who selected them at a ceremony beginning at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at One Wachovia, 301 S. College St.
