Nancy L. Boero made the Community Culinary School of Charlotte a welcoming, and a growing, place for students and staff. She will be missed.
Boero, 67, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 14, in Charlotte after a long and brave fight with emphysema. The text of her obituary is below.

Nancy Lucas Boero
Ms. Boero, 67, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011.
Born July 15, 1943, Nancy was a daughter of the late Thomas Edwin Lucas and Annis Ritch Lucas. She attended Charlotte Catholic High School and graduated from Myers Park High School before furthering her education at King's College.
Ms. Boero spent much of her adult life in New York City, NY and Red Bank and Fair Haven, NJ where she worked with Concurrent Computer Corporation.
Following her return to Charlotte, Ms. Boero worked with Presbyterian Hospital and spent the last years of her career with The Community Culinary School of Charlotte writing grants.
Ms. Boero is remembered for her love of the beach and especially for her primary joy in life of being a mother and grandmother.
Her family includes two sons, Sean Boero, his wife, Sandy, and their children, Patrick, Matthew and Collin, of New Jersey; and Patrick Boero, his wife, Tara, and their children, Meghan Rose, Joshua and Cayla of St. Johns, FL; her sister, Ritch Lucas Cain and husband, Danny, of Charlotte; and two brothers, Tom Lucas and wife, Amelia, of Montgomery, AL and Taylor Lucas and wife, Caroline, of Charlotte; as well as numerous extended family members. A brother, Patrick Myers Lucas, preceded her in death.
A service to celebrate Ms. Boero's life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 17th in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends at the Clubhouse of the Essex Condominiums (intersection of Sardis and Providence Roads) beginning at 1:00 PM.
